Feddersen Futures – Scenarios for the Future of Feddersen’s Business Areas in Europe

As part of the group-wide foresight process “Feddersen Futures”, a comprehensive set of scenarios for the future of the Feddersen Group’s business areas in Europe was developed over the course of nine months – including areas such as foreign trade, plastics distribution and plastics production. The process was initiated and led by me in my former role as Strategy & Foresight Manager at port F. The goal was to use strategic foresight to better understand uncertainty, open up strategic thinking spaces, and create a solid foundation for a shared future strategy.

What made this process special was its consistently participatory and multi-perspective approach: employees from various business units, the executive management, and external foresight experts worked together to develop five well-founded and diverse scenarios. These scenarios were enriched with analyses, roadmaps, personas, and global contexts, highlighting potential developments in areas such as climate resilience, geopolitical power shifts, and the circular economy. The results led to strategic questions and concrete fields of action that served as the foundation for the group’s ongoing strategic development.

Perspective: 2035+
“The Foresight process of Feddersen Futures was the initial step toward systematically strengthening the future readiness of the Feddersen Group – and, thanks to its consistently participatory design, also a methodological example.”
Volker Scheel, Managing Director K.D. Feddersen Holding GmbH

The foresight process was a strong first step and the initial building block for systematically strengthening the future readiness of the Feddersen Group. With the publication of the internal scenario report, a continuous and evolving future dialogue was initiated – aiming to position the company group as resilient, forward-thinking, and future-oriented.
